Vine Weevil!!!

I saw my first one today. It was on an empty terracotta pot dangerously close to my proteas. Needless to say, it's now an ex-vine weevil. I didn't get any infestation last year - evidently they don't like ferns, conifers and palms. But now I have a Magnolia, and this morning I noticed (having not been out in the garden for a couple of days) that almost all the leaves have been chewed to bits.

So I can tell I'm going to be joining the legion of torch-wielding gardeners after dark, trying to collect vine weevils before they eat all my plants. And then come August I'll be employing the service of several million nematodes. According to the RHS it's a symptom of having a container garden.

I sprayed the non-palm angiosperms with organic bug spray, but I suspect that won't have any effect. With bug spray and squirrel spray it's becoming quite a lethal atmosphere out there! Any tried and tested tips for getting rid of horrible magnolia-chewing vine weevils greatly accepted...
